Do you care about username aesthetics in games? (Invisible characters & formatting)

Hey everyone,

I was curious how much username aesthetics actually matter to players today.

In a lot of games (especially multiplayer titles), we’re limited by:

  • character restrictions
  • duplicate name issues
  • forced formatting

But I’ve noticed many players experimenting with Unicode characters, spacing tricks, and even invisible characters to make their names stand out — without breaking any rules.

Some people use it just to:

  • avoid “name already taken”
  • keep a clean/minimal look
  • add subtle uniqueness without symbols

Others think it’s pointless and prefer plain names.

So I wanted to ask the community:

Do you personally care about how your username looks in games?

  • Have you ever customized it beyond normal letters?
  • Do you think games should support more formatting options officially?

Would love to hear different perspectives 👀

Welcome to the forums if youre not a bot!

Do not care at all, in fact if there is an option to turn them off, i do that. Personally i want as little info on other players names/titles/level etc. to be seen. Idc about their pets and stuff, but the less writing on the screen the better personally.

I like choosing a good username. So much so that I've probably changed my Gamertag about 10 times. I could have bought a new game instead. Though I don't really care what other people are called. So maybe it's just a waste of time to change mine.

I don't care how it looks, I just care if someone takes my name. Thankfully no one uses this name. In all the years of being on the net, only 1 person has ever taken my name on a game or platform before I could sign up. My name is pretty unique so I'm good. 🤘
