I've just bought a HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-EC0031AX

CPU: AMD RYZEN 5 3550H with Radeon Vega 8 Mobile Graphics
GPU: NVIDEA GeForce GTX 1050
8GB RAM

Both System Requirements Lab and my device specifications in Windows say that I have 8.00 GB RAM installed but only 5.92 GB usable.

I found a support communication from HP about this. They said 'This is by design. AMD reserves some memory capacity in order to support the Microsoft PlayReady feature'.

https://support.hp.com/th-en/document/c06526774

I have no idea what PlayReady is or why is needs so much RAM. Is it possible for me to reduce the amount of RAM allocated to it, are am I best leaving it as it is and adding more RAM if I want to play a game that requires more than 6 GB?

A PC always uses an amount of ram when idle, with no probrams open my system uses 1.5gb of RAM for windows and other various programs, if I have steam and a webrowser open the amount used might jump up to 2gb-3gb of ram used.

I'd suggest you google how to stop certain windows 10 features from running to increase your amount of usable RAM such as disabling skype, xbox gamebar and cortana.

Can you check if your 1050ti is being used or your Vega8 grahpics? If you're using your integraded graphics, it will always reserve a certain amount of RAM (I believe it's 2GB) to be used as VRAM. When you're using your 1050ti it should be 8GB.
