Not always, but I definitely do check more often these days. Depends on the game and genre, of course. As a general rule if a story-based, "single play through" game is pushing 30-40 hours I really have to think about whether I want to even start it. These days I prefer short and sweet... or...
Turn based for me Turn-based with pause always seems a bit janky, like not quite as good as if the game was designed purely for one or the other. It does solve some problems, though.
First game I played was probably something in the arcade - Space Invaders or Asteroids? I don't remember the first arcade game. I do remember the first time I played a 2600, and the game was Adventure. It blew my mind (and is still fun to this day).
