What was the first video game you remember playing?

Super Mario Bros. 2 I'm pretty sure. I didn't have any gaming console but I remember playing that at a friend's house and then asking my parents for a Nintendo. First PC game I played I know for sure: Space Quest 3. My mom was really big into adventure games and I watched her and then she'd...

Weekend Question: If you could only play console games, which console would you choose?

I'm a PC only guy because I mostly love the FPS, Western RPG and stealth genres. I feel like those genres have always been more associated with Xbox, so I'd probably go for an Xbox Series X with backwards compatibility.

Question If reviewers paid for games, would scores be different?

It might be a factor in their value proposition, but I actually think they overcompensate for it. I've read tons of reviews where the writer talks about it not being worth the money because it was "only 20 hours" or whatever, when for many buyers I think that's a fine length and people don't...

    Question RTX 2070 - i7 7700 GPU Bound?!

You might need more cores someday, more and more games are wanting 6 cores, but for now your CPU is just fine. Enjoy!

Question will there be a Mass Effect 4

Mass Effect feels like such a finished trilogy to me. Andromeda had some issues but I really do feel like a big part of it bombing was just how unneeded it was.

Watch Night City Wire: The Cyberpunk 2077 Livestream

This idea that DLSS 2.0 looks the same as native resolution baffles me. It looks good for what it is, but it looks very processed (blur/sharpening/smoothing) compared to native resolution.

Weekend Question: How do you hold a controller?

I only use a controller for 2D Super Nintendo style games, so I have one thumb on the d-pad and one on the face buttons and the rest holding the back, pretty much.

What would your dream game be?

First one that always comes to mind is a Star Trek CRPG, or at least a space opera CRPG. Think Fallout or Arcanum but with spaceships and planets instead of towns and other points of interest. I just love space opera style sci-fi, and while we have some action RPGs in that category (Mass Effect...

Weekend Question: Have you made a dent in your backlog?

I've been playing Pathfinder: Kingmaker the whole quarantine and I guess that's a dent in my backlog since I've got several CRPGs I haven't gotten to (Pillars 2, Underrail and Divinity 2 being the others). It's solid, but the timer and kingdom management stuff is annoying so it's near the bottom...

Question What kind of game do you wish existed, but doesn't?

I want a space opera CRPG revival game (think: Divinity OS) so bad! Basically a very open and isometric Mass Effect with lots of faction play and choice and consequence. The genre is like 90% fantasy and 9% post-apocalypse.

A game outside your comfort zone?

It's like Dark Souls mixed with Tomb Raider, basically.

You are now the last video game character you played. What do you do?

Point Man in FEAR, so I guess I join the Navy Seals or something!

Question Games as a Service is ruining gaming?

When Steam first started and Gabe Newel talked about "games as a service" this is what he meant, yes. Continual updates, community features, and DRM of course. However now that this is standard everywhere, I think it's morphed as a term into things like always online service games that make...

Gaming moments that gave you the tingles.

Biggest one off the top of my head is fighting Anna Navarre on the plane out of nowhere in Deus Ex.

Weekend question: What unreleased game of 2020 are you most looking forward to?

My favorite genres being RPG, FPS and immersive sims... and my favorite setting being sci-fi... I think Cyberpunk is maybe my most anticipated game of the last few years, not just this year. Bloodlines 2 is right up there as well, for similar reasons. Both getting pushed back to Fall is a...
