    Another pre purchase rip off

This seems like a regular price for a big studio/publisher game? To me at least. It's fine though, if you don't like it then you can wait until they start discounting. It just means you won't be playing straight on release. For some people (especially the long-term fans) they may feel they're...

AGESA V2 1.2.0.7? (Dragon Age: Veilguard)

I've not heard of this before, but Google suggests AMD AGESA is a motherboard firmware update of some kind. So I think you need to dig a bit more to find the real motherboard manufacturer. Or the exact model of laptop your have, from which you can start to look for firmware updates.

What's the last game you abandoned?

Colony Ship: Post Earth RPG. Kinda picked it up on a whim after seeing the good reviews, then realised it would probably take up a lot of time. Plus I got absolutely beat in my first non-tutorial fight. Before that it was Anno 1800. Feels like a good game and I sunk over 10 hours in. And then I...

    Recommended excellent computer puzzle games

I'm going to raise my suggestion of Infinifactory again (as usual). Fancy building machines to create blocky products (a la minecraft), for your alien captors? Then this is the game for you! A couple of the latter levels in particular have some macabre humour.

    Games refunds policies need extending

Yeah I think after Colif's comment I think speedrunning particularly is less a problem than I thought. For someone who's intent on skipping most of the game content and to quickly get to the end, then from a refund perspective maybe they didn't experience enough of the game in 2 hours to justify...

    Games refunds policies need extending

I think the 2 hour policy on Steam is reasonable. If anything it's punishing the shorter games, where people can refund it after playing the whole game. See https://www.pcgamer.com/indie-dev-leaves-industry-indefinitely-thanks-to-exploitation-of-steams-refund-policy/ There's also the speed...

Opus Magnum - a little-marked puzzle with interesting mechanics

I enjoy all of the Zachtronics games. I think if you like one you'd probably enjoy the others too, but to differing degrees depending on the setting and also the kind of "programming" that particular game employs. Honestly my favourite out of the bunch is probably Infinifactory, which I think...

Are you gifted or challenged at in game navigation?

For me it depends on the game itself. Something like GTA with large landmarks in the background, I can steer myself roughly towards where I want to go. So I find that relatively straighforward. But recently I've been playing Warhammer Boltgun and it's just a lot of similar looking corridoors...

Where can I go now to play stand-alone games like Contra?

I think Broforce is similar? and personally I like it a lot. If you're not sure want to pay try Expendabros first, basically the same game but a free version. I think it was made to advertise the movie hence the characters.

Recommend a game or two from the last few years that most people have never heard of...

I quite enjoyed Tin Can, although I recognize it's probably of niche appeal. Steam link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1315980/Tin_Can/

Have you ever bought a game's soundtrack?

I don't usually buy the soundtrack separately, but I have sometimes bought a game + soundtrack on steam. Or perhaps it comes as part of a "collector release" or similar. Short FYI you don't need to play it inside steam. You can go to the game/soundtrack options and open the folder, and it's...

    Settlers New Allies

I think probably because they did a pre-review a while ago, then delayed the game. So even though it's released now most of the early comments still hold. PC Gamer site does have a review if you are interested https://www.pcgamer.com/the-settlers-new-allies-review/

How many dollars per hour of playtime should a developer charge for a game?

I'm not sure I agree with this metric. I think it can be helpful for comparing similar games, eg. GTA vs Assassins Creed perhaps. But there's some games where this value is going to be artificially high, or incredibly low despite the game being amazing. For example, "idle" games where you're...

How we pay for our games

I think adware is missing? Recent examples I've seen are essentially a free-to-play type game, but if you don't want to directly pay money you can instead watch adverts (and advertisers pay the developers money). But watching the ads doesn't get you as much progression as paying. So this is...

    Hitman 3

From memory I think they were pretty similar in terms of gameplay. Perhaps the story does carry on across games though, someone else could say for sure. Looking at the prices on steam it seems Trilogy is cheaper than buying each game seperately. But in a way it's also something of an upfront...
